My Sunshine

The following is a Guest Blog (testimonial) to East Way Photography, written by Diana Marie Russo, Miss Finger Lakes 2018. We thank Miss Russo for her comments and friendship.

It might be dedication or I might just have a sweet tooth. But, I have been employed by a frozen yogurt bar for 5 1/2 years.

Over that time, I have met some of the most amazing people at the store. I have to admit, the regulars who come in are the best. Some of the regulars have even given me Christmas and birthday presents and some of them are my Facebook friends.

When you work in customer service, it is important to treat every customer with respect and kindness. I always try to go the extra mile with regulars because it makes their frequent visits more enjoyable and my job easier.

But there is one regular that sticks out the most. Every time George came into the store, he would say "hey sunshine!" He would credit this nickname to the smile I shared every time he walked in.

There was a long period of time when I didn't see George. One day when he returned to his normal ice cream schedule, he told me he was having a bad day but my smile turned his day around. After I asked him where he was over the past few months we realized that he went to the same college as I do currently. I then proceeded to ask him what he does now with his degree.

Come to find out, he works as a professional photographer in New York City and Rochester. At that moment, my wheels started to turn and I knew I had to put my networking skills to good use.

After learning that he is an accomplished photographer, I mentioned that I knew a few models that I could refer to him. Instead, he suggested photographing me and said that if I liked the results, I could then refer my friends to him (something I did not expect).

If you have ever used photoshop or the Adobe products, you know how difficult it is to use these applications and create something that is stunning. But every time George creates art through his photography, I am stunned.

After three years, George has become a friend and I have come to know him as one of the most kindest and talented people.

I don't think I will ever forget this memory because you never know where kind gestures can take you. Your actions can speak volumes and one day, someone worth while will take notice.
